When you think of WordPress, you think of plugins. The helpful software components whose functionality should make life easier for the operators of WordPress sites. And there are a lot of these plugins – especially in the area of search engine optimization. Well-known plugins such as YOAST, Rank Math, SEMrush and SEOPress support the user in making his website fit in the SEO area. They are great for uniformly compressing images, preventing tag pages from being indexed without adding value or incorporating structured data.
However – and here comes the big BUT, they only iron out part of the system-side weaknesses of WordPress. Because, even if WordPress is basically a content management system that is practical for search engine optimization, it is of course not enough to create thoughtless content and pages. Therefore: SEO plugins are not a substitute for a well-developed SEO strategy.
It should be known by now that SEO is a time-consuming area of online marketing. In addition to the increase in competitors, the Google algorithm rules also require a sophisticated SEO strategy in order to appear among the first search results.
In addition, SEO didn’t even happen “just like that” with the “straightening” of technology. Up until a few years ago, it may have been possible to use technical tricks to improve the rankings of one’s own website. In the meantime, however, the crawlers are so advanced that satisfying the needs of users has to make up a large part of search engine optimization in order to achieve a good ranking.
As with all (online) marketing measures, it is also necessary with SEO to identify an objective as well as target groups and their search intentions.
Who am I and what do I stand for as a company? If I don’t follow a common thread with my company and don’t know what I want to be noticed for in the search engines, then no plugin will help me.
SEO plugins do not offer any added value for these topics either. I have to answer these questions myself in order to actually improve my performance in SEO.
A good SEO strategy is characterized by the fact that all SEO-relevant aspects have been taken into account during the development: technical, analytical and content-related. Of course, this also applies to WordPress. This includes a proper information structure, backlink structure and above all GOOD content. And by that, we mean really high-quality content – away from the word quantity and the “always more, always new” mindset. Because if I want real people to read my texts and rate them as helpful, then real people have to write these texts.
